Why Buy Canadian? Right now at McAllister’s we are presenting our “Made in Canada Sale”. Why is it important to buy Canadian? There are many answers to this question. Here are just a few points. 1) The fact is that some foreign countries pay much lower wages to their employee’s. This results in furniture being produced at a lower cost. Unfortunately most of that savings is lost once the product has been shipped around the world. 2) Canadian manufacturers have stringent rules as to the types of finishes, foam, and fabrics they can use. The concern is about various chemicals and “Off-Gassing”. Further, Canadian Factories are heavily regulated by their pollution emissions. Imported furniture does not face the same restrictions either in the chemicals, which go into their products, or the pollution, which escapes from their factories. 3) An importer has to make a guess as to what styles, pieces and colors they will pack into a freight container. This takes choice away from the consumer. Since Canadian product is made right here, the manufacturers generally offer much more choice and specialty. In other words a consumer can get exactly what they want. 4) It seems obvious that the employee’s who work in Canadian factory’s pay taxes in our country to build our roads, schools and hospitals. Imported Furniture means exported jobs. I don’t believe in supporting a manufacturer if they don’t create top quality, but you will find a number of Canadian Furniture Companies that create outstanding value. At McAllister’s we sell Canadian products where possible.
